What the 2026 FIFA World Cup is Showing Us
It’s June 2026, and the FIFA World Cup has arrived in North America, bringing tens of thousands of football fans from around the globe to celebrate the Beautiful Game right here in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
What’s surprised me most isn’t just the scale—more teams, bigger crowds, massive energy—but how joyful, organized, and welcoming the fan communities are. Supporters travel across oceans to cheer their teams and connect with others. The love for the game comes first; winning and losing happen later. And in the process, many visitors are discovering that America isn’t the place they’ve been told about. Americans, it turns out, love hosting people who show up with open hearts.
In a time when tribalism and division dominate so much of our entertainment and media, seeing happy humans from every background celebrating together warms the heart. It feels like the Beautiful Game is doing what sports do best: bringing people together, healing divides, and shining light on what unites us.
The World Cup gives fans the freedom to see Americans as we really are—not through the lens of governments or cynical media. The “hateful American” myth is fading fast as visitors experience our hospitality, culture, and spirit firsthand.

The 8 3 1 has various international events, motor sports, ocean sports, golf, music and food / wine festivals. But, nothing has been like the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
